Per tradition, we went to Idaho for Jake's birthday. I had planned to take this whole week off but had 2 important meetings for work. So after the my meeting & Gracie returning from Camp Keisel, we headed up, Wednesday night. We stopped and got a couple of pizzas from Smokey Joe's in Preston. When we got to Dean and Lindsey's we had dinner and visited. Jake and Gracie played pool. They were cracking Lindsey up. They were using pool terms and acting like they knew what they were doing.
Josie was delighted with the idea of having a sleepover with Gretchen. She wanted to sleep downstairs until all the kids started falling asleep. She came upstairs crying because Gretchen wouldn't tickle her back. Dean talked her into sleeping in her own bed. I guess she is still a little young for a sleep-over.
On Thursday the 2nd, we went to Bear Lake. The kids had such a good time the first time we thought we would do it again.... okay, it was for me. I wanted to go to Bear Lake.
I made Lindsey take a picture of me. letting the air out of the floaty.
Jake wanted to take all these shells home. They made me sick, so we got a picture instead. I should have clipped his fingernails...
Emily and her kids came up and joined us for the beach.
I rented a paddle board for a couple of hours.
Maddie let us borrow her kayak for the weekend.
On Friday, August 3rd, Jake's actual birthday, Lindsey taught Jake to drive the 4-wheeler. He loved it, but it made me very nervous.
That afternoon we went to the Caribou County Fair. Jake wore his new boots. He wanted: pants, boots and a belt for his birthday. I was surprised. Mike said that it was as much a gift for me as it was for Jake. I do like a little cowboy.
We watched Dean do the team branding.
While Lindsey took pictures, Trig and I enjoyed one of my favorite treats.
The kids bought an annual marshmallow gun and ran around under the bleachers. Jake only shot me once. He made it look so fun, other people ended up buying their kids guns to play with Jake. I apologized for the things their kids might learn from my Jake. He is a very good boy, but he has no fear when it comes to leaping and jumping from dangerous places (or driving 4-wheelers).
The kids were so good to let me and Lindsey look around the display buildings so we let them play at the carnival.
On Saturday morning Mike came up (he had been at scout camp and working). He took the kids to do a little trap shooting. They are going to start Hunter's Education next week.
Saturday we went to the demolition derby. It was so fun. The kids loved it.
Sunday we went four-wheeling and stopped at this trough to get a drink (no sign of diphtheria yet). Dean gave Jake a little bath, he didn't love it.

Gretchen and Gracie tried to build a dam but lost interest before they stopped any water.
Dean did some fantastic tricks on his 4-wheeler and I got anxiety.
