Corner

Miss Gretchen has been attached to "Corner" for as long as I can remember. The only time they are very far apart is when she is at Trisha's. Since Gretchy has been able to stick things in her own mouth she has been chewing on Corner. She like to chew the stitching that was, & I do mean was, crocheted around the edge. Because corner was always being chewed on it would get dingy. She likes to have chocolate milk in the morning & carry around corner. I would wash & wash corner, but it always looked bad. I remember taking her into get her tubes & I was very embarrassed that her blanket looked so unsanitary. It really bothered others, so Mike finally talked me into cutting of the gray corner (hence the name) When I put it in the garbage Gretchen just stood there with the rest of her blanket perplexed. She twisted it around and asked for corner. She ran to the garbage and pulled out the strings and cried "corner, corner" It was so sad. She tried to chew up the little remainder but it just wouldn't cut it. I felt so bad. Anyway, she still loves corner & has stopped chewing on it (another corner would not do). She likes to know it is close, but now that she is close to three she can have a substitute if corner is being washed or if she is staying at Aunt Lindsey's. Gretchen doesn't for get when corner is in the laundry. Every time she thinks about it, she asks "corner is clean now?" When we move corner to the dryer she really tries to keep it even though it is wet. If I can get it into the dryer she asks quite frequently, "corner is dry?" Some time she thinks if she says it like a statement it makes it true. I love Gretchen & I love that she is so attached to her corner.I should probably confess that I have a blanket that she calls corner & I take it any time I am going to be in the car very long. I also have 1 of my baby blanket that I keep in a special drawer (I can't use it because it is so thread bare). When Gracie was little I gave her my other baby blanket so that I could hold her & not look like an idiot while holding MY blanket.
