Totverweisen

Mike does some extensive testing with his dogs. One of the bigger challenges that he is going to participate in this year is a big game blood tracking test. This requires training the dog to search for and track the wounded/dead animal . When it is located, the dog flips this leather tag, called a bringsel, into it's mouth and returns to the handler, signaling that the game has been found. The dog then leads the hunter to the game. My dad helped Mike and I make these bringsels for Mike & some of his buddies. We used a deer stamp to signify the large game & the pine boughs represent the the start of a blood track, if the game is a buck or doe & what direction it fled. The word totverweisen means: big game guide. I really enjoyed working with the leather. It was nice to work in my dad's warm shop and watch him show my kids how to work with leather.
